見知らぬ土地に足を踏み入れるとき目の当たりにする人々の営みや日常風景。偶発的な出会いと別れの狭間で、作者は『人と地域』との関連性を追い求め、アメリカ西部を中心に２００４年頃からこの題材と向き合ってきました。『あなたが “属する / 調和する” どこかで』と題された本展が示唆する、個々の存在性と地域環境との結びつきから、あらためて世界を感じてほしい。

M.I.U. is pleased to present a solo exhibition of Kento Mori’s latest work “SOMEWHERE YOU BELONG” on view from Saturday, Nov 29th until Sunday, Dec 7. On display are approximately 30 color & B&W photographs from recent years, that were taken in the US. The opening reception will be held on 28th from 19:00 to 22:00.

"SOMEWHERE YOU BELONG"

Since 2004 Mori has been photographing the west coast of the US with the objective to better understand, what connects people to their environment. He photographed the people in a frontal position because he wanted the viewer to see each person as an individual human being; in a respectful manner. As he did when he photographed them. His images have considerable appeal, as they vividly depict the everyday life of ordinary people. 

The word “Belong” is the basis of this installation; Hopefully viewers find a place where they feel they belong.

Smoke Bath is a collection of photographs and art work loosely based on the theme of camping/ nature/ exploring. The Fresh Air Fund is an independent, not-for-profit agency that provides free summer vacations to New York City children from low-income communities. The goal of smoke bath is to showcase the work of artists that are inspired by nature and raise money for freshair.org in the process. I feel very honored to be a part of this project. I’d like to thank Peter Sutherland who made this happen.
